Circa 1948 by Stan Douglas

A new immersive digital installation by artist Stan Douglas called Circa 1948 will be open to the public in September at SFU Woodward's. Something like a computer game or a science fiction style holodeck, it is a large box in which projections of various settings -- including Hogan's Alley in 1948! -- appear on all four walls around you. Sensors track your body movements, and as you move, so do the images around you, which change accordingly and allow you to walk through this historical cityscape. In the Hogan's Alley setting, you can peer in doorways, enter buildings, go upstairs, walk through yards, and eavesdrop on characters' conversations. Book yourself a session for September 2015 at the SFU Woodward's website here.
